Abstract

Many authors have predicted that the 21st century will be considered the "Pacific Century", in direct reference to the possibilities that this vast region will become the engine of economic activity and world politics. Within this context, it can be stated that due to their influence on regional security, the countries of Northeast Asia, particularly China, Japan, South Korea and North Korea, play one of the most important roles within the Pacific Rim. Despite certain critical periods, the post-Cold War has made it possible to deepen rapprochement and cooperation between these actors, especially between Japan and South Korea, which has enhanced the gradual emergence of a security regime between the two countries.
