Abstract

In 1980, the prospects for the exploration and economic use of the oceans in Latin America assume considerably significant dimensions. If we consider the global potential of Latin American fishing resources, we find a set of extremely favorable factors to promote a modern and dynamic development of the Latin American fishing industry in the next ten years. For its part, its oil potential is evidently underexplored and probably underexploited, and if one looks at an even longer term, the same happens with future mining and metallurgical activity. It is necessary to give free rein to the dynamic impulse of the extraction and commercialization of renewable and non-renewable marine resources in the business context. However, it is essential that, at the same time, global policies ensure adequate protection of biological and ecological balances.
