Abstract

The recent accentuation of the role of the armed forces in the politics of developing countries, military coups d'état, which became more frequent, and the establishment of military regimes in several countries cannot but provoke an understandable interest in the problem of the incorporation of the army into the political arena in Asia and Africa. The analysis of dozens of military coups that occurred in the last two decades in the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America allow us to make certain deductions and try to establish the laws that govern them.

Gueorgui Mirski

Doctor en ciencias económicas, es director del departamento de estudios sociales y políticos de los países subdesarrollados del Instituto de Economía Mundial y Relaciones Internacionales de la Academia de Ciencias de la Unión Soviética. Es autor de varios libros, entre ellos Ejército y política en el Tercer Mundo (1969).
