Diseño urbano y miedo al delito en el espacio público de la ciudad popular: el caso del barrio Año Nuevo, Lima (Perú)

Resumen
El artículo examina la influencia que las condiciones de diseño del espacio público pueden tener en el miedo al delito. Se tomó como caso de estudio el barrio popular de Año Nuevo en Comas (Lima, Perú), un distrito con altas tasas de criminalidad y miedo al delito. Se llevaron a cabo entrevistas semiestructuradas para identificar los lugares de mayor evitación, un análisis gráfico de las condiciones urbanas y un análisis observacional de las cualidades urbanas relacionadas con el miedo al delito. Los resultados del estudio indicaron que los lugares generadores de miedo al delito son los perímetros de los equipamientos amurallados y las calles con alta concentración de comercio informal. En el primer caso, el detonante es la condición de borde o frentes inactivos y la baja calidad del diseño urbano del perímetro de los equipamientos; en el segundo, se generan lugares de atrapamiento e interrupciones en las líneas de visión. El estudio contribuye al campo de estudio proporcionando una herramienta metodológica de fácil uso.
