This text essentially seeks to explore the extent to which architecture - taking into account its necessarily more objectual condition - and the earth, the ground - as a reference support for any architectural operation - can be a theme of great power and significance in the construction of spaces and architectural configurations in urban and landscape scales. We take as a reference to analyze this theme some works by Álvaro Siza; an architect who, in his already long career, reveals to us, recurrently, not only a profound and conscious relationship between architecture and the ground, but also an interesting variety in the treatment of this theme, which, in his case, it is deeply related to the different constraints that the nature of the site and the program present in each project.
