Starting from a systemization of the general characteristics of educating an architect in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Chile, presented here, in the first instance, is a summary of the introductory process to the activity of undergraduate research in the subject of architecture. Later, the case of the specialty of urbanism is used in order to point outthe existing requirements of students in research seminars and degree thesis investigation. Finally, some pending chores and challenges that need to be dealt with in order to push toward new and better stages of development are stated.
