Artificial intelligence (AI) applied to urban-architectural processes has sparked debate over its impact: does it enhance design, construction, and management capabilities, or threaten authorship, ethics, and creative diversity? This article examines the potential of AI as a catalyst in the digital transformation of Industry 4.0 and its connection to big data as a core resource. A specialized literature review identified benefits, applications, challenges, and ethical risks within architecture and urban planning. The findings show that, when integrated with technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), AI can optimize resources and enable pathways toward sustainability, personalization, and data-driven adaptability. The review also highlights risks that pose manageable challenges and strategic opportunities to strengthen profesional practice. Under a responsible framework, AI can expand human capabilities and support the evolution of contemporary design.
